Treasurer
The elected post of Treasurer was created in the Virginia Constitution of 1870. The Treasurer's Independent status as an elected official ensures that local funds will be collected, invested and spent by an officer who reports directly to the people.
Responsibilities
The Treasurer is the chief financial officer for Middlesex County, collecting taxes and local fees, and making payments on behalf of the local government. The Treasurer manages the investment of local funds and maintains records of local finances. The Treasurer is responsible for every form of revenue which comes to Middlesex County including:
- Court
- Dog Tags
- License Taxes
- Real Estate Taxes
- Sheriff and Clerk Fees
- Tangible Personal Property Taxes
Middlesex County Tax Notice
The due dates for Real Estate tax payments are June 5 and December 5. The due dates for Personal Property tax payments are December 5. If either due date falls on a weekend or holiday, the due date will be the following business day.
By law, payments made to the Treasurer’s Office or postmarked on or before the due date will be accepted as timely. Do not wait until the due date to mail your payment. Mail is no longer stamped and processed locally. Accounts remaining unpaid after the due date will be subject to additional charges as provided by the Code of Virginia. Please verify the completeness of your bills upon receipt. By law, failure to receive a bill does not relieve the taxpayer of any additional charges that will accrue for failure to pay by the due date.
The Treasurer’s Office is located in the Woodward Building at 877 General Puller Highway in Saluda. For your convenience, a drop box for 24-hour payment service is also available at this location. The Treasurer’s office is open Monday through Friday to the public. Staff will be available to collect payments during normal business hours of 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. You may pay your taxes in person with cash, check, money order, debit or credit card (a 2.45% convenience fee). Taxes may also be paid online only using an e-check (including a $1.00 fee per transaction). Please be advised that if paying with an e-check, your payment will not post immediately. Please allow up to five business days for payment to post. Payments will be considered timely if paid on or before the due date printed on the bill. You MUST enter your account number for payment to post properly. For your convenience, Taxes can be paid at any “local - Middlesex” Primis, or C&F Bank before the June 5 and December 5 due dates and will be accepted as timely. TRUIST no longer accepts payments. You can also pay online at http://www.co.middlesex.va.us. After the June 5 and December 5 due dates, payments can only be processed with the Treasurer’s office.
